Ethics approval
Any research involving human participants (such as interviews, surveys, use of medical records, and so on) must be approved by the University’s Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) before the research commences. Application is a two stage process- your application is first submitted to the Department of Public Health Human Ethics Advisory Group (DHEAG), and once approved, to the relevant HREC sub-committee (Health Sciences, Social Sciences or Humanities and Applied Sciences. Please note that you should allow at least two months for obtaining ethics approval.
For more information about the ethics approval process, consult with your supervisor in the first instance, and refer to the university’s human ethics website: http://www.research.unimelb.edu.au/humanethics/
Application forms are available on this website.
